Bauchi Police Arrest Three Suspects After Mob Kills Two Men Accused of Theft

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested three suspects following the killing of two men by a mob in Bunga Hamlet, Warji Local Government Area of Bauchi State, after they were wrongly accused of theft.

The victims, Kabiru Idris, 30, and Ibrahim Danliti, 40, both from Gabanga Village in Warji Local Government Area, were reportedly chased and beaten to death while travelling on a motorcycle.

According to the police, the incident occurred on 7 May 2026 after authorities received a distress call reporting a violent attack in Bunga Hamlet, Dagu Ward.

In a statement issued on Friday night, the Police Public Relations Officer, Nafiu Habib, said the victims were pursued by a mob from neighbouring Ningi Local Government Area while members of the crowd shouted “thieves, thieves”.

“The victims, while riding a motorcycle, were pursued by a mob from Ningi LGA shouting ‘thieves, thieves’ until they were intercepted at Bunga Hamlet and subjected to severe beating, which rendered them unconscious,” Habib said.

He added that police officers rushed the victims to the General Hospital in Warji, where a medical doctor confirmed them dead.

Following the incident, detectives acting on intelligence arrested three suspects linked to the attack.

The suspects were identified as Samaila Turawa of Gwada, Danbaba Haruna of Gwada and Ubale Mai Kaji of Ningi.

The Bauchi State Police Command said the suspects were currently being held at the State Criminal Investigation Department and were assisting investigators.

Police added that efforts were ongoing to apprehend other members of the mob who fled after the attack.
