Senator Sabo Muhammad Nakudu has emerged as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in Jigawa State after winning the party’s primary election.

The result was announced after more than 48 hours of vote collation by the chairman of the election committee, retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police Muhammad Ahmad Zaki.

According to the official results, Nakudu secured 35,939 votes to defeat his only rival, Alhaji Bashir Muhammad Adamu, who polled 19,537 votes.

The declaration brings to an end the prolonged collation process and positions Nakudu as the ADC’s flag-bearer for the forthcoming governorship election in Jigawa State.

Election officials said the final results were compiled and announced following the completion of the state-wide collation exercise.

In a statement issued shortly after he was declared winner, Nakudu thanked members of the ADC for their participation in the primary election held across the state’s 287 political wards.

“I wish to thank members of our great party, the ADC, for participating in the statewide primary elections that took place across the 287 political wards last Monday,” he said.

“Your peaceful conduct and active participation show our resolved commitment to fighting bad governance we are facing at all levels of government in Nigeria.”

Nakudu pledged to work with party leaders and stakeholders to strengthen unity and internal democracy within the party ahead of the election.

“As the duly elected governorship candidate of our party in the forthcoming elections, I commit myself, together with all stakeholders and party leaders, to strengthen our internal party democracy and unity at all levels,” he said.

He also called on other aspirants to support the party’s efforts towards victory, stressing that the primary contest should not create divisions within the ADC.

“The election has no winner or loser. I call on all aspirants to join hands with the party in gearing towards the victory we yearn for,” Nakudu added.
