{"id":86,"date":"2026-05-12T08:56:01","date_gmt":"2026-05-12T08:56:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thetimesnigeria.com\/?p=86"},"modified":"2026-05-12T08:56:03","modified_gmt":"2026-05-12T08:56:03","slug":"ekiti-candidate-scores-highest-in-2026-utme-as-jamb-announces-new-examination-reforms","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thetimesnigeria.com\/?p=86","title":{"rendered":"Ekiti Candidate Scores Highest in 2026 UTME as JAMB Announces New Examination Reforms"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Owoeye Daniella Jesudunsin from Ekiti State has emerged as the highest-scoring candidate in the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), recording 372 out of a possible 400 marks, according to the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Speaking on Monday at the 2026 admission policy meeting in Abuja, JAMB Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, said Jesudunsin sat the examination in Ogun State and selected the University of Lagos (UNILAG) as her first-choice institution to study Medicine and Surgery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The development was first reported by TheCable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Oloyede noted that the score was three points lower than the highest mark recorded in 2025, when Chinedu Okeke from Anambra State scored 375.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Enwere Kingsley Ikenna from Imo State placed second with 370 marks after sitting the examination in Lagos State.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He selected Nile University, Abuja, to study Computer Science.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bamisile Ayomide Emmanuel from Ondo State came third with 369 marks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He sat the examination in Ogun State and chose the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) to study Software Engineering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Other top-performing candidates included Olabiyisi Olanrewaju Oluwatimileyin from Oyo State, Victor-Onyeka Daniel Ifeanyi from Imo State, Osagiobare Daniel Osahenrumwen from Edo State, Ademiluyi Adebowale Anthony from Osun State, and Azuike Kenechukwu Anthony from Anambra State, all of whom scored 368.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Offorkile Michael Okechukwu from Abia State, Adebisi Eniola Sonari from Ogun State, and Umukoro Gift Orhenevovwero from Delta State each scored 367.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the meeting, Oloyede also announced that JAMB would introduce a \u201cBring Your Own Device\u201d policy for UTME candidates beginning from 2027.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Under the proposed system, candidates would be permitted to use personal devices during the examination, with a specially configured flash drive inserted into each device to prevent malpractice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Oloyede said the initiative would reduce costs, simplify logistics and address complaints from candidates whose computers malfunction during examinations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe measure is designed to make the process more convenient while maintaining the integrity of the test,\u201d he said, adding that further innovations would be introduced before the 2027 examination cycle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Stakeholders at the policy meeting also agreed on deadlines for the completion of the 2026 admission process across tertiary institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Public universities are expected to conclude admissions on or before October 31, 2026, while private universities must complete their admissions by November 30, 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Polytechnics, monotechnics and colleges of education were advised to conclude their admission exercises by December 31, 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Oloyede directed all institutions to comply strictly with the approved timelines, warning that institutions that fail to complete admissions within the stipulated period would lose access to candidates for that academic session.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He further stated that successful candidates must accept admission offers within four weeks or risk forfeiting them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the registrar, the policy is intended to ensure fairness, transparency and the timely completion of admissions across Nigeria\u2019s tertiary education system.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Owoeye Daniella Jesudunsin from Ekiti State has emerged as the highest-scoring candidate in the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), recording 372 out of a possible 400 marks, according to the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
