Iran has rejected a United States-backed draft resolution at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), describing it as \u201cflawed\u201d and \u201cpolitically motivated\u201d, amid escalating tensions surrounding the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to a report by The Times of India, Tehran said the proposal would fail to resolve the ongoing conflict in West Asia and accused Washington of attempting to legitimise what it described as unlawful actions through the United Nations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a statement, the Iranian mission said the only viable solution to the crisis was an end to hostilities, the lifting of maritime restrictions on Iranian ports and the restoration of normal navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Iran also urged UN member states to reject the proposed resolution and refrain from supporting it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The draft resolution was introduced by the United States alongside Gulf allies including Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Qatar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The measure seeks to protect freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world\u2019s most strategically important energy routes through which a substantial portion of global oil supplies passes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The United States has accused Iran of targeting commercial vessels, laying sea mines and threatening maritime traffic in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The crisis has contributed to growing instability across the Gulf, with reports of missile and drone strikes, attacks on vessels and heightened tensions involving Israel raising concerns about a broader regional conflict.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Israeli military also reported warning sirens in northern Israel following what it described as a suspected aerial infiltration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Iran\u2019s Revolutionary Guard warned against any military action against Tehran, arguing that previous attempts by US President Donald Trump to weaken Iran had failed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the same time, diplomatic efforts remain ongoing, with mediators reportedly working towards a possible agreement between Washington and Tehran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The continued tensions have also had significant economic implications globally, contributing to rising oil prices and increased shipping costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
