{"id":56,"date":"2026-05-08T08:45:18","date_gmt":"2026-05-08T08:45:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thetimesnigeria.com\/?p=56"},"modified":"2026-05-08T08:45:19","modified_gmt":"2026-05-08T08:45:19","slug":"bala-mohammed-officially-joins-apm-declares-for-bauchi-south-senate-seat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thetimesnigeria.com\/?p=56","title":{"rendered":"Bala Mohammed Officially Joins APM, Declares for Bauchi South Senate Seat"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has formally declared his intention to contest the Bauchi South Senatorial District seat under the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) ahead of the 2027 general elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Governor Mohammed obtained his nomination form on Thursday in Abuja shortly after attending his first National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the party.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The meeting was presided over by the APM National Chairman, Yusuf Dantalle, alongside other senior party officials and stakeholders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Speaking during the meeting, the governor criticised what he described as undemocratic practices and political intimidation within Nigeria\u2019s political landscape, saying such developments had made political participation increasingly difficult for progressive leaders and movements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mohammed said the APM shared core principles aligned with his political philosophy, including good governance, internal democracy, inclusiveness, justice and respect for the rule of law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to the governor, these considerations informed his decision to join the party.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He also disclosed that several prominent figures from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) defected alongside him, including members of the National Assembly, lawmakers in the Bauchi State House of Assembly, local government chairmen, commissioners, ward executives and other grassroots supporters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mohammed described the development as a collective political movement rather than an individual defection, adding that the objective was to strengthen the APM and expand its national presence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The governor\u2019s declaration comes days after he resigned from the PDP, citing the need to pursue what he described as better representation for his constituents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before leaving the PDP, Mohammed served as chairman of the PDP Governors\u2019 Forum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He previously represented Bauchi South Senatorial District in the Senate after winning the seat in 2007 on the platform of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mohammed later served as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory after his appointment in 2010 before subsequently joining the PDP.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has formally declared his intention to contest the Bauchi South Senatorial District seat under the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
