A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party led by Kabiru Turaki has announced a political alliance with the Allied Peoples Movement ahead of the 2027 general elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ini Ememobong, spokesperson for the Turaki-led PDP faction, confirmed the alliance in an interview on Wednesday, saying the arrangement emerged from the All Opposition Political Party Leaders summit held in Ibadan, Oyo State, in April.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cMany more alliances to come, but starting with this,\u201d Ememobong said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Last month, opposition parties including the Turaki-led PDP faction, the African Democratic Congress and a faction of the New Nigeria Peoples Party announced plans to field a single presidential candidate in the 2027 election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The development follows the decision of Bala Mohammed to purchase the APM senatorial nomination form on 7 May, five days after resigning from the PDP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There has also been growing speculation that Seyi Makinde may join the APM during a planned joint rally by both parties scheduled for Thursday in Ibadan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Several PDP lawmakers in Oyo State have already defected to the APM ahead of the rally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The PDP remains divided into two factions, with the faction backed by Nyesom Wike and led by Abdulrahman Mohammed recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission as the party\u2019s legitimate leadership.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
